Accident Investigations

When incidents are investigated, the emphasis should be concentrated on finding the root cause of the incident so you
can prevent the event from happening again. The purpose is to find facts that can lead to corrective actions, not to
find fault.

Steps Include:

  1. Assess the Injury.
  2. Obtain Medical Treatment if Necessary.
  3. Interview Injured Employee and Witness(es).
  4. Observe Accident Scene and Analyze the Facts.
  5. File a Workers’ Compensation Claim.
  6. Follow Up.
  7. Corrective Action.

Safety Audits and Inspections

Cal/OSHA requires routine site inspection to identify potential hazards. Regular inspections provide an opportunity to
fix problems before injuries and incidents occur, protecting your people, your property, and profits.

Written Safety Programs

In California every employer has a legal obligation to provide and maintain a safe and healthful workplace for
employees, according to the California Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1973. As of 1991, a written, effective
Injury and Illness Prevention (IIP) Program is required for every California employer.
