The video conferencing portion of the training is approximately one (1) hour. Participants are responsible for:

Participants are required to complete the online portion of the training 48 hours prior to attending the in-person portion of the training (no exceptions).

Course description

This course is designed to meet the OSHA and Cal/OSHA training requirements for operating power industrial trucks. Discussions are geared towards recognizing potentials hazards, equipment limitations and safe operation of power industrial trucks based on manufactures recommendations.

It is expected that all participants will operate a forklift during the familiarization part of this training following established familiarization procedures.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe OSHA and Ca/OSHA requirements for power industrial trucks
  2. Recognize common hazards associated with the use of power industrial trucks
  3. Identify operating characteristics and limitations
  4. Describe the center of gravity and stability triangle concept
  5. Demonstrate refueling and/or charging procedures
  6. Recognize safe load configurations and load stability
  7. Describe concepts of pre-operational inspections
  8. Demonstrate the process of equipment familiarization
  9. Demonstrate load manipulation

At the conclusion of the class, each participant will take a written examination and complete a performance evaluation.

Note: Participants who receive credit will be issued an operator certification card electronically.

Requirements

  • Required materials: pencil, highlighter, personal protective equipment (PPE) and adequate work clothing and footwear.
  • Required equipment: Participants are responsible for securing a forklift that is in good working condition. The forklift must comply with OSHA and manufacture’s standards.
