Video conferencing modality
The video conferencing portion of the training is approximately one (1) hour. Participants are responsible for:
- Reviewing and adhering to the Requirements for Video Conferencing.
- Securing an adequate internet connection and a space that is conducive to learning.
Blended modality
Participants are required to complete the online portion of the training 48 hours prior to attending the in-person portion of the training (no exceptions).
Course description
Where more than one employer is involved in a single construction project on a given construction site, each employer is responsible to ensure the availability of emergency medical services for its employees. This course meets the OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements for providing a suitable number of appropriately trained persons to render first aid.
This course features key changes in basic life support reflecting new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular care. Other topics include critical concepts in high-quality CPR.
Learning objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Secure an emergency seen
- Identify shock, cardiac and breathing emergencies
- Recognize heat and cold emergencies
- Identify sudden illness and poisoning
- Control bleeding; treat shock; and apply basic bandaging
- Identify and treat burns
- Stabilizing impaled objects
- Manage diabetic emergencies and seizures
- Perform CPR
At the conclusion of the class, each participant will take a written examination and complete a performance evaluation.
